Amb. Abimbola Junaid is a social change and development practitioner in Gender Community & Youth Development. She obtained her 1st degree in English Arts and has worked over ten years as a community development worker, working with women, youth crime, asylum seekers and destitute to reform their lives and regain their position in the wider society. She also has experience in homelessness and housing, drug and alcohol rehabilitation. She is currently studying for a masters of Arts degree in Social Policy and Administration, at the University of Nottingham United Kingdom.
Abimbola is an ambassador for peace, under the auspice of the universal peace federation www.upf.org. Abimbola is the founder of the Arise Nigerian Woman, Foundation, a social change organization for women ambassadors and volunteers of change. For more info visit www.arisenigerianwoman.org. She is a member of the Association of African women for research and development, Zonta, also a core member of pro democracy groups in the Diaspora campaigning for the reformation of the democratic and electoral system as well as an increased gender participation in Nigeria's democratic governance and the advancement of Africa. To renew awareness in the larger society of the image and value of the Nigerian woman and her capabilities.
To bring about unity amongst women by creating one platform for all facets of the Nigerian woman, eg the masses, grassroots, market women, women in the force, corporate women, women in authority, women in governance in order to maximise the strength in pooling together of all expertise.
To form partnerships with all stakeholders in achieving these goals.
To introduce a platform of interaction and feedback on a monthly or quarterly basis between women and government at local and national level.
To develop newer strategies of influencing change and rebuilding of Nigeria
For women to continue to safeguard the family unit and the social society at large.
To bring about the forms of social capital methodologies; bonding, bridging and linking social capital, as the solution to changing the status quo.

Lydia Olufisayo Olanrewaju (born 27 October), better known as pHisayo (pronounced "fee-sah-yoh,”), is a Nigerian singer-songwriter,from Abeokuta in Ogun state.
pHisayo was born in Kaduna state, Nigeria.
Her parents, Isaac Olanrewaju, a retired woodworker and Juliana Olanrewaju (also retired), met in Abeokuta and moved to Kaduna to settle and raise a family. That family grew to include seven children. pHisayo is the fifth child.
pHisayo is the alter Ego of Fisayo. It's an indication of her perception of her relationship with all the elements around her. She sees herself as pH-7 the balance between both extremes, too little and too much. At level 7, she's just right, involved but never corrupted by any influence. She remains true to herself. As a child, pHisayo loved reading. She was fascinated by Greek and Roman mythology, devoured comic books, and her favourite book to read, was the dictionary. She often wondered off into her own world and her artist temperament held true right from childhood up until this moment. She loves nature, children, and a good laugh.
Her first impulse is to sing, but pHisayo didn't think seriously about singing for the public until 2005 when she worked with Samcleff to produce her first single, “Gbemileke”.
She received encouraging reviews and what started out as an 'experiment' has taken on a life of its own and is defining a new path for this Multi talented Beauty.
She is working with a team of forward looking and inspired producers- on her debut album.
pHisayo describes this album as 'something for everyone'. It will be clear from the album, that she is strongly influenced by traditional classical music as well as rock, pop, dance hall and even folk.
pHisayo grew up listening to music of all sorts, since her older siblings were music lovers as well. Her sister was a dedicated Michael Jackson fan; her brothers were into soul, country, rock and the swing of the 70s and 80s.
The Influences of the classics she grew up listening to will be fairly represented in her debut as pHisayo plans experiment with as many genres as she can in order to produce the eclectic mix she is currently working on.

Mo Abudu - Taking Giant Strides

Mosunmola Abudu (born September 11, 1964), usually known as Mo Abudu, is a talk show host, TV producer, media personality, human resources management consultant and entrepreneur.

Abudu was born in Hammersmith hospital in London to Mr & Mrs Akintunde. At age 7, her family relocated to Lagos, Nigeria and she was sent to stay with her grandparents at their cocoa farm in Ondo State, to learn about African culture.
At age 11, she attended Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School. At 12, shortly after her father died, Abudu returned to the UK and attended Hammersmith County Secondary School before moving to the Ridgeway School in Kent where she lived with her guardian in Tunbridge Wells. From there, she went to West Kent College and MidKent College. She has a Masters Degree in HR Management from the University of Westminster, London.
Abudu is a member of the British Psychological Society, and is qualified in occupational and personality testing.
Abudu started off her career in the UK as a recruitment consultant in 1987, becoming a branch manager. She went on to work for the Starform Group, managing the Corporate Credit Management Exhibition from 1990 to 1992.

In 1993 she joined Arthur Andersen for Esso Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited (now ExxonMobil) to head their Human Resources and Training unit. She left in 2000 to establish a privately-owned specialist human resources development company known as Vic Lawrence & Associates Limited (popularly known as VLA).
While running VLA, Abudu developed an executive training centre at the Protea Hotel, Oakwood Park, Lagos.
Abudu is the Executive Producer & host of a TV talk show, Moments with Mo, which is the first syndicated daily talk show on African regional television
By October 2009, over 200 episodes had been recorded and aired with numerous topics ranging from lifestyle, through health, culture, politics, entertainment, tradition, to music and inter-racial marriages. Guests have included celebrities, Presidents, Nobel Laureates, and the 67th US Secretary-of-State Hillary Rodham Clinton,[1] Abudu says the show "highlights the life and accomplishments of a usually well known, but sometimes an undiscovered African individual who by his or her own tenacity and determination has accomplished something, overcome something or been a catalyst for something that makes her or him a role model to others."[2]
Aired on M-Net with TV coverage in 48 African countries, the show now also airs on

terrestrial and cable TV in other parts of the world.
Abudu is the creator and executive producer of "The Debaters", a reality TV show. Funded by Guaranty Trust Bank, it launched on 3 October 2009. The show focuses on “giving Africa a voice” by promoting oratory
Abudu is the founder of The Inspire Africa Foundation, a human investment arm of Inspire Africa Ltd. It is registered as a non-profit organization focused on raising funds to implement society-transforming initiatives.
In January 2009, the Inspire Africa Foundation alongside Moments with Mo, the Lagos State Government and UNICEF held a telethon and a charity benefit concert with the theme "Rock with a Conscience".[4] Donations from the concert have gone towards the protection of street children.
The Foundation has opened a charity store branded “The Designers Outlet for Charity”, which opened on 5 December 2009 in Lagos, Nigeria. The foundation is also developing a children's shelter called “The Harbour”

Mr. Oresanya was born in Ibadan. He had his Bachelor degree in Geology from the foremost University of Nigeria, the University of Ibadan and a Masters degree in Environmental Management and Ecology from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
He is equally an alumnus of the Mercyside Polytechnic, in Liverpool, United Kingdom, where he obtained a post graduate diploma in Business Management. He is a part time lecturer in Waste Management at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Well I will say as a waste manager have been in this business for about 25 years and the C.E.O of LAWMA have been on it for 5 years

I Have been on the employment of LAWMA for the past 25 years

What are the challenges you are facing as the C.E.O

A
The challenges are basically inherited staffs that are poorly motivated so we have to start with staff motivation and build the right caliber of people that will do the job. We don't have the equipment to do the job then, where we required about six hundred and fifty trucks to move close to about 9000 tones waste we have less than 50 trucks in the city and there was lack of funds

How were you able to solve the problem?

A
We decided to untangle it gradually picking one after the other solving the problems. We started with the staff motivation. We encourage our staff to have the right understanding of the job then show them love care and education also on the job so those are the factors we started with. Then with the repairs of our vehicles.

LAWMA is so organized even from door to door house to house cleaning how were you able to organized that?

A
Well, I take exception for the perfectly, because nothing is perfect yet so even am not satisfied yet I wouldn't say its perfect but we are able to organized ourselves I will agree with you. We were able to organized ourselves by defining unbinding the tangled assignment, we defined the task very well. What we were to do, the public waste, domestic waste, commercial waste and agricultural waste to management and recycling. We defined the different use of the task to be used and we assign responsibility to different stakeholder. And started to coordinate, develop capacity for each stakeholders then we try to do monitoring and coordinating at LAWMA. The area we don't have the competence we absorb to the private sector which has been worth while and our partnership with the private sector has been the input to the fast track in the implementation of our projects.

What other plans do you have for Lagos State to move forward?

A
The road map is a very long one. Very big we believe what we have just done is 20% that is giving 80% is an impact we still have close to 50% work yet undone in waste management I can tell you that. What we've just succeed in doing is 16% to 20% of the assignment that is giving 80% impacts so the remaining task we will define them and we are still trying to perfect our disposal also our special waste collection that we need to develop talking about the collection of the green waste, bucket waste and the rest of it. We still have out household storage we still have to encourage people to use the proper household storage. We still have so many recycling projects. we are yet to produce water from waste, we are yet to have employment mark of almost one thousand people working in waste management so the target and dream we set for ourselves is a very big one. We are yet to be declared the cleanest city in Africa and best waste management practice in Africa so the road map is very long. And we have not yet have our foot print in several cities in Africa. We need to be the African bench mark in waste management we are yet to be declared at that level. One thing we can celebrate is we are on the right track

A woman of quiet dignity. She is a model of calm composure. She is a symbol of genuine humility. She has an uncommon capacity for hard work and a burning passion to motivate youths to actualize their potentials. Her unassuming carriage and disarming simplicity belie her status as the first Lady of Lagos State, Nigeria’s most populous and economically viable state. In her characteristically simple and unobtrusive style, Her Excellency, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, has been working assiduously behind the scenes to complement the efforts of the Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and add value to governance in Lagos State.

In pursuit of her commitment to “grooming tomorrow’s leaders to be confident, self-sufficient and socially responsive through education, vocational skills acquisition and recreation”, Her Excellency has established a unique Non-Governmental Organization, the Lagos Empowerment And Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N). As Chairman of the NGO, she has been diligently overseeing the systematic implementation of its strategic vision of establishing resource centers in the five Administrative Divisions of Lagos State as a basis for thereafter exporting the L.E.A.R.N. model to other jurisdictions.

Within its very short period of existence, L.E.A.R.N. has begun to impact positively on the lives of tomorrow’s leaders through various creative programs targeted at students. Between August and September, 2007, for instance, L.E.A.R.N. successfully organized a 6-week free Summer Skills and Training Camp on basic leadership principles and vocational skills for 485 students from both public and private schools.
In a similar vein, L.E.A.R.N. is currently organizing After School Revision Classes for 3,850 senior WAEC students spread across 19 educational zones in Lagos State. This program will provide a scientific basis for ascertaining the impact of after school revision classes on student performance in WAEC examinations.
With the emergence of China as a global economic power, L.E.A.R.N, through the pro-active leadership of Her Excellency, has initiated the L.E.A.R.N./Sino-Culture Exchange Programme to prepare Nigeria’s future leaders for productive interaction with Chinese society and culture. Under this programme, 25 students from five public primary schools in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area are participating in Chinese language coaching and the best student will have the opportunity of watching the Olympics in Beijing.

Apart from her work among students and youths, Her Excellency is passionate about environmental cleanliness. She has been at the forefront of the campaign for Lagosians, particularly women, to embrace environmental cleanliness and keep the surroundings of their homes and markets clean. She religiously participates actively in the monthly sanitation and weekly market sanitation days showing by personal example the pivotal role of women in maintaining a hygienic environment.

Her Excellency’s accomplished and cultured style is no doubt a reflection of her roots as a daughter of the illustrious Ojo’Badan family of Ibadan. Her grand father, who died in 1952, was the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadan. He fought in the First World War and as the first African Seargent Major in the Army, he won several Medals for bravery in battle. Her great Uncle, Mr. J. Ade Ojo was among the first students of Kings College, Lagos, when it was established in 1952; he was Science Tutor and Games Master at the school for 33 years.
Another Great Uncle of Her Excellency, Chief S. Ade Ojo, was the first Nigerian Clerk of the Legislative Council established in 1941, the first Clerk of the Nigerian House of Representatives in Lagos, the first President of the Western House of Assembly and first Chairman of the Western Nigerian Public Service Commission. He died as the Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Her Great Aunty, Chief Mrs. Adepeju Wuraola Esan, was the First Educated Iyalode of Ibadan land and the first Female Senator in Nigeria. Another of her Uncles, Professor O. Adewole Ojo, was the First Nigerian Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. And Her Excellency’s father, Chief Emmanuel Adewinsi Ojo, was a distinguished lawyer who served as the First African Director of Texaco PLC and died as the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadan land.
It was into this eminent family of many “Firsts” that the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Abimbola Emmanuela Fashola was born on 6th April, 1965. She began her formal education at K Kotun Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Surulere and obtained her secondary school education from Marywood Girls Grammar School, Ebutte-Metta and Yejide Girls High School, Ibadan. She received her professional training at the Lagoon Secretarial College, Adisa Bashua, Surulere, where she obtained a Diploma in Secretarial studies and followed this up with an Advanced Computer Certificate from the Computer Department of the University of Lagos.
Mrs. Fashola had a brief stint as a trainee Journalist with the Daily Sketch before joining the British Council in 1987. Whilst in the employment of the British Council, she served in various capacities from Front-of-House Operations, Technical Cooperation & Training, Projects & Overseas Development Support, Arts & Gender Relations and Examinations Officer/IELTS Administrator responsible for managing various examinations on behalf of several UK institutions and boards for over 10,000 candidates yearly before resigning her appointment in 2006.
She has attended various training programmes and courses both locally and overseas on Customer Relations, IT Skills, Managing people and Effectiveness in the work place.
As the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Fashola is the Chairman of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), a community based gender organization established by the wife of the First Military Governor of Lagos State to complement the efforts of the State Government in improving the socio-economic conditions of the people.

Mrs. Fashola is married to His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), the Governor of Lagos State, and the marriage is blessed with children.

Terry G, no doubt, is currently making waves in the music industry, especially with his own

genre of music which seems to have cauht the attention of most music lovers.

Populr as he may be, he seems to be in the bad books of many people and trailed by scandals at present.

Now the Students Union Government of the University of Benin iand the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS)0 are so displeased with his conduct that they have declared him persona non grata.

In a statement made available to Life and Beat, NANS said a musical show was organised by the leadership of UNIBEN SUG last January, in order to revive the ailing social life on the campus and to relieve the students of the stress experienced while they prepared to write the semester’s examination.

Terry G was unanimously chosen by the SUG committee led by the welfare director Comrade Cyril Emiko as the guest artiste artiste for the event.

The statement reads, “After series of persuasion by the SUG leadership, he eventually agreed to collect the sum of N500,000 alongside his flight ticket with four of his crew members which amounted to N68,240 for the five of them (on-line booking) on January 25 for the programme slated for January 29.”

Terry G, Life and Beat gathered, did not turn up for the show. But he promised the NANS leadership to refund the money given him and to pay for the damages incurred as a result of his negligence, which resulted in a general loss of confidence in the committee led by the SUG welfare director.

As a result the SUG governmnet declared Terry G persona non grata not only in UNIBEN, but in other higher institutions in the federation as also agreed by the Comrade Jude Imagwe led NANS leadership. We dare him to try us.”

Dagrin undergoes surgery

Dagrin is one of the new rappers on the block who is making so much waves. Little wonder, he has been nominated and even won several awards in just a few years.

But now, the young man‘s life, Life and Beat gathered, is in a critical state following the accident he had with his Nissan Maxima and a truck earlier in the week.

Sources said the singer has been hospitalised since the accident occurred. He ws said to have sustained serious injuries and was even unconscious for hours.

A source close to Dagrin, who claimed to have been in the car at the time of the accident, said there was a brief argument after a truck driver lost control and damaged the fender of Dagrin‘s Nissan Maxima. Other inside sources confirmed the story, apparently desperate to conceal the truth.

A report from www.thenetng.com said Dagrin was operated upon at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital last Wednesday, hours after he ran into a stationary truck around Alakara Police station in Mushin, while driving home around 3am last Tuesday.

He was returning home from an assignment, and he had called home severally to tell his folks not to lock the gate; that he was coming home”

According to the website, His manager Tunde, and family said the rapper was left unconscious after running into the truck, and was left hanging between life and death before he was rescued by Policemen on patrol.

The policemen reportedly called Dagrin’s manager after they found his phone number on the ‘last dialled‘ list. He was initially taken to Tai Solarin private hospital in Mushin, before his minders moved him to LUTH.

Mother luck was definitely on the side of female rap artiste, Weird MC, or she would have been shown the exit like Funke Akindele, in the ongoing Gulder Ultimate Search: Celebrity Showdown.

Apart from luck anyway, her fivestar performance in the previous week gave her immunity to stay back in the show.

According to the anchor p and task master, of the show Genevieve Nnaji, despite taking the rear in the task of last week, Weird MC escaped eviction because of her Immunity from eviction based on her sterling performance last week.

Though there was no eviction from the house, the eviction bug caught up with Princess who said she feared being evicted though she had not given it much thought.

Meanwhile, Darey was the man of the moment last week as he led in the task. His excellent performance got him to enjoy a fabulous treatment in a five star hotel.

Enough is Enough Rally

Several hundreds of young Nigerians, comprising professionals, artists, and students, engaged in a peaceful march in the blazing Lagos sun for about two hours to the Lagos State Governor’s Office in Alausa. They were marching under the aegis of Enough is Enough Nigeria.

Amongst the many protesters, led by president of the Campaign for Democracy, Joe Okei-Odumakin, were popular singers like Banky W, Eldee, Sound Sultan, Timi Dakolo, the Roof top MCs, actor Rita Dominic and comedian Ali Baba.

Informal sources said the governor was in the Acting President’s entourage to high-powered meetings in Washington DC, USA. However, the governor did not designate a representative – even though the protesters showed a letter received and signed by his Chief of Staff as proof of ample notice. The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Yomi Ikuforiji, tried to come out to address the crowd, but they had lost their patience and the organisers declared the rally closed.

The march, which began at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Open Field, went through Obafemi Awolowo Road and terminated at the gate of the Governor’s Office.

The Lagos heat did not deter the marchers, who turned to the many vendors selling fluid to quench their thirst. The crowd, which had most wearing white t-shirts with inscriptions, attracted many on-lookers, many of whom voiced support for their cause.

A considerable contingent of police officers was on hand to ease traffic issues and quell any potential disturbance. This is a reversal of what transpired a month ago when gun-carrying police officers barred the same youth group at the main gate of the National Assembly in Abuja and prevented them from seeing the leadership of the Assembly. That incident resulted in a scuffle.

The Enough is Enough group is a coalition of youth groups who are demanding for a change and insisting that young Nigerians take more ownership of the voting process.

CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION
1. Only music materials released in the Nigerian market between December 2008 and November 2009 are eligible for nomination.
2. Artistes cannot submit music materials created by other people except for materials to which they have copyright.
3. All music materials must fall into Pop, HipHop, Urban Contemporary, R&B, Reggae, Dance Hall and Soul.
4. Songs and albums in the popular categories are screened for popularity around the country and not in particular centers or states.
5. Nigerian born artistes are not qualified for the African artiste of the year category.
6. No music materials that endorse/encourage fraud, alcohol abuse, narcotics and wanton sex are eligible for nomination, except if said songs have radio-edited versions.
7. The screening committee/panel of judges can nullify any category that is not competitive in the year under review.
8. Best Music Video of the year goes to the video director.
9. Non Nigerian creators (including artistes, producers and music video directors) are not eligible for nomination except in African artiste of the year category.
10. The board of judges shall decide on the recipients of the HipHop World Awards Hall Of Fame.
11. All eligible music materials are considered fairly regardless of who submitted or not.
12. Only creators credited on music works shall be considered as right owners.
13. The ‘Headie Plaque’ remains the property of HipHop World Awards. It is not transferable at any point. The judges have a right to withdraw an award at any time.
14. Each participant on every collaboration shall be awarded.

The 26th and 27th of March 2010 were filled with joy and happiness as Chioma Nnenna Lameya Ozokwor, daughter of Nollywood star, Patience Ozokwor, married her heartthrob Chielozona Ugwu Ani in Enugu, Nigeria.

Patience who was widowed several years ago stood with pride as her only biological daughter (After her husband’s passing, kind-hearted Patience adopted 3 children) began her journey into matrimony.

The traditional wedding – Igba Nkwu (Ipa Mmanya) took place at Chalons Avenue Industrial Mission (Ozokwo’s nest) in Umu-ishi Ngwu, Enugu State. The bride was dressed in a beautiful blue traditional gown accessorized with coral beads. Later in the day, as she embarked to her husband’s family home in Amachalla, she changed outfits and matched her husband in a gold, black and orange traditional outfit.
The white wedding took place at the Dominion City Church in New Haven, Enugu. The bride – Chioma’s strapless white wedding dress was so gorgeous and her groom kept the elegant theme in his classic black suit. Nollywood was not left out of the mix as industry colleagues including Ini Edo-Ehiagwina along with her husband, Phillip, Mike Ezuruonye, Nkem Owoh and other nollywood stars graced the wedding. Acting and comedic veteren, Chief Chika Okpala popularly known as Zebrudaya of the New Masquerade was the Chief Master of Ceremonies at the wedding reception.

Chioma and Elozona love story started years ago as the groom is friend’s with Chioma’s older brother, Chuka. It was when they both moved to the UK that the love truly blossomed and now they have tied the knot.
Wishing them a blessed and happy marriage.

The Figurine Beats Them All at AMAA!

THE 6th edition of African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held last night in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. And Kunle Afolayan’s movie The Figurine emerged the top winner of the night, claiming all of five awards. However, Afolayan, who only yesterday returned from the New York African Film Festival to attend the event, did not get the coveted Best Director Award. Ghana’s Shirley Frimpong-Manso, director of The Perfect Picture clinched the award.

Ramsey Nouah, who’s away in the US, missed the event, but was able to give his acceptance speech (for winning Best Actor in a leading role) after Kunle Afolayan placed a call to his mobile phone and placed the phone on speaker
